England international and Chelsea star Casey Stoney is one of many elite players and clubs using the S1 Sport shin, ankle and achilles system.
Casey played for her country against Germany in the final of the 2009 UEFA Women's European Championships in September, wearing the S1 protection system, with its unique shinpad design which separates the pad from a washable, ultralight undersection. This guarantees maximum player comfort, hygiene, health and safety.
Casey, a defender with more than 60 caps, says: "I've worn the S1 Sport protection system since the Women's FIFA World Cup 2007. They are the best shinpads I have everworn. I think they're really comfortable and the system even eliminates the need to use tape to keep them up.
"You don't want to be concerned about whether your shinpads are in place as you go into a tackle, which happens with tape. But because of the separate undersection on the S1 shinpad, and theway it attaches to your leg, it never moves, which is great for me.
"Also, it means I don't get anymore shinpad rash. In the past I used to suffer from rash nine times out of 10 because sweat would get caught between my leg and the shinpad but not anymore."
"With the S1 system, because the undersection is separate, it helps my leg to breathe properly. Sweat isn't trapped between the pad and my leg. All you've got to do is wash the undersection through after a match to keep it clean and it is fine to wear again - and no more smelly pads. That's what I did during the Women's UEFA European Championships."
The system also has a separate ankle and achilles protector, which has no rib to cause blisters inside the boot, is ultra thin, made of soft neoprene and ensures player comfort. It can be worn either under or over a sock.
For the ankle, solid protector discs have been sewn inside the pad for maximum protection, while for the achilles, a dual protector exists to absorb damaging impact on this part of the foot.
Casey is about to star in a new online and 'youtube' campaign to promote the unique S1 Sport system.
