Colchester United Offering Additional Places at Female Academy
Following a banner 2009/10 season which saw a BCS National Elite League Cup Final appearance, a BCS National Cup Semi-Final and an Essex County Colleges championship Colchester United’s Female Football Academy is looking ahead to the 2010/11 season with confidence and has been able to secure some additional places for the new school year.
Based at Thurstable School and Sports College in Tiptree, Essex and closely linked with National Premier League club Colchester United Ladies FC, the Academy is entering its sixth year and is regarded as one of the elite female football academy programmes in the country. The programme benefits from a full time Director, full time manager and an assistant coach all UEFA qualified as well as an academic support network. In addition the link with the Ladies set up provides access to a cutting edge strength and conditioning and injury treatment and prevention programme run in conjunction with Fitness First and David Bond Personal Training.
The team also participates in an end of season international tournament. Having previously won the World Youth Club title at the Gothia Cup in Sweden in 2008, the squad will this year head to Barcelona, Spain for the Copa Catalunya competition.
With a limited number of additional places now available for the upcoming season any female players between the ages of 16-19 with a good playing background who would like the opportunity to combine full time study with an elite level football programme are encouraged to apply. The programme is not limited to local students as there is a full home stay programme available.
