Cooper Captures Award

Gillingham's Deanna Cooper has won a prestigous award for her hard work and dedication to sport.

Deanna (16) was up for Young Sports Personality of the year by Kent Regional News Group. She was also in contention for the group's News & Media Editors Award, nominated by Senior Sports Editor, Tony Rickson.

Deanna who has moved up from the Centre Of Excellence, where she enjoyed several caps for the England U-17s, and joined the Gills despite strong interest from teams in a higher division.

She has been a pivitol player in the midfield, and has set up many goals for both Ashlee Hincks and Natalie Crinean, and on Sunday set up a goal which manager Ian Varley described as a 'World Class Pass'.

Deanna has made 16 appearances for the first team, netting 4 times, and has also become the first Gillingham Ladies player to represent England, when she started against Iceland for the U-17s just the other week.

Not only is she a rising star in football, she also excels at cricket and plays for Kent, who won the national championship and led to her having the honour of visting Buckingham Palace to collect her medal from the Duke of Edinburgh. She also is a regular in the England U-17 cricket squad.

She often trains at cricket in the morning, then makes the mad dash to play for the Gills in the afternoon but still puts in a player of the match performance.
