Devon League Finalists Decided

Alphington and Exeter & Tedburn Rangers progress to the Westward Developments Devon League Cup Final.

Both League Cup semi-final matches were played in glorious weather, with Premier Division Alphington’s match against Division Two champions Stoke Gabriel resulting in a 2-0 win for the Exeter side.

Strikes from Laura Burwood and Sam Gray were enough to end Stoke’s cup ambitions for the season.

Premier Division leaders Exeter City travelled to Exeter & Tedburn Rangers for the other semi-final, and saw their League and Cup double hopes flounder as Rangers took the game 3-0.

A Becky Hazell penalty gave Rangers the lead, which Amber Corcutt doubled before half time with a looping shot into the top corner of the net.

City took the game to Rangers in the second half but found Rangers' keeper and player of the match Sarah Godbeer in no mood to concede.

A second penalty, converted by Becky Hazell with ten minutes remaining, put the game beyond City’s reach.
