Holders Through To Quarter-Finals

The Scottish Premier League calendar kicked-off properly today, with the League Cup, which included a rematch of the 2008-9 final.

Last week, the national team were in the Cyprus Cup and with only one game surviving the freezing temperatures of a few weeks ago, when the new season was supposed to commence, for the vast majority of teams, today was their first taste of action of the new campaign.

In the 1st Round of the Premier League Cup, Glasgow City beat Hibernian 2-0, in a repeat of last year's final. Jane Ross twice hit the Hibs' bar and Eilish McSorley had an effort cleared off the line. Lisa Evans thought she had made the breakthrough but her volley was saved by Lynn in the Hibernian goal, who was proving to be in fine form for the visitors.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Leanne Ross converted a penalty, then with 20 minutes left, Katharina Lindner hit the top corner from 20 yards, as City made a successful start to the defence of their trophy.

Dundee United were edged out 4-3 at home after extra-time by Spartans, while Boroughmuir Thistle went down 3-1 at home to Celtic.

Glasgow City will now face Celtic, whilst Rangers will play Spartans, in the remaining two quarter-final ties.

Two sides are already through to the semi-finals, Inverness were 3-1 winners over Hamilton Academical, while Aberdeen won 4-0 at Kilmarnock.
