Combination Leagues Round-Up

The Midland Combination got underway with Stratford Town making a splash on their debut, sending Northampton Town to a 4-1 defeat.

Stratford Town made a great Midland Combination debut, promoted despite finishing third in the West Midlands League, they kicked-off with a 4-1 win over Northampton Town. Lisa Slowther scored direct from two free-kicks, Sarah Giles and Mel Curnock also found the net for the newcomers, Nikki Duncan replying.

Radcliffe Olympic were 4-2 winners at Wolves, where Ramia Ramadan scored twice, Chantelle Lewis and Aileen Whelan once each, while Dani Selmes got both goals for the home side.
Leafield Athletic tied 2-2 with Stoke City, with Gabby Reid and Donna Hughes scoring for the hosts, while Christina Johnston saved a late Potters' penalty. and Loughborough Students also finished all square with Rotherham United at 1-1.

Sheffield FC Ladies' 3-2 win at Mossley Hill keeps them in pole position in the Northern Combination but Sheffield Wednesday are up to second after a 4-0 defeat of South Durham, in which Shelly James, Laura Windle, Beth Gingell and Rachel Skeemer shared the spoils.

Salford slipped to third with a goalless draw against Wakefield, for whom it was a first point of the season. Bradford City are still without a win, following a 2-1 home reverse by Middlesbrough, in which Tammika Clarke scored the hosts' goal. Scunthorpe United did get off the mark, 2-0 winners at Liverpool Feds, while Tranmere Rovers and Stockport shared four goals, County's third draw in four games.

There were three 'big-hitters' in the South East Combination, including MK Dons, who posted a big 8-1 win at Crystal Palace. Kelly Bingham bagged a brace, with the other goals shared around Jo Brandon, Caroline Moran, Lisa Burrows, Kelly Robinson, Lauren Goodier and Mikaela Welford. Leaders Tottenham Hotpsur knocked in seven at Old Actonians, with four from Sam Pittuck and singles by Emma Kayser, Robyn Downie and Bianca Baptiste, while Cambridge hit Braintree Town for six.

Enfield Town beat Ebbsfleet United 3-0 but the visitors made them fight all the way. A Katie Wilding penalty and Sheree Oliver effort was added to by Sara Sinclair adding the third.
Lewes were 2-0 winners over Ipswich Town and Norwich City hit four goals without reply at Luton Town, to leapfrog them in the table.

Plymouth Argyle made it three wins from three to stay top of the South West Combination but had to come from behind to get the better of Oxford City by 4-1. Goals from Leah Brooks and Becky Rose gave the home side a 2-1 advantage at the break and a brace by Laura Gough then wrapped up the points.

Havant & Waterlooville rescued a point at home to Newquay, when Charley Wilson levelled 13 minutes from time. Chloe Richards put the visitors ahead early in each half, Jess Lewry scored in first half stoppage time for Havant.

Chesham United sent Forest Green Rovers to a 3-1 defeat, Cullompton Rangers were 4-1 winners over Swindon Town, with Emma Redwood, Catherine Wright, Lola Garcia Sanchez and Angie Pope all on target. Gloucester City are off the mark, at the expense of Southampton Saints, whom they beat 2-0. The Saints have signed Beatrice Enyegue from Marseille.
