Colchester Crowned Essex CS Champs

There was a new name on the Essex FA Charter Standard trophy, as Colchester United won the pre-season event at Fairways in Harlow.

In the women's section, Colchester United and Billericay Town topped their groups and were joined by Barking and Chelmsford City in the semi-finals, who both snuck through on goal difference, with Assandun Vikings and Hutton just missing out.

Both semis were won by the odd goal, as group winners Colchester and Billericay reached the final. This trend continued, with a late solitary strike enough to see Colchester win.

Aside from the fierce competition, all participating clubs were keen to promote the ethos of Charter Standard football and there was a Fair Play Award on offer for the team with the highest number of Fair Play Points, awarded by the match officials during the group stages. This proved just as close as the football on display, with Colchester United adding the Fair Play prize to their overall trophy on the Sunday.

Essex FA Club Development Officer Ian Bent was delighted witht the event, commenting: “Once again the Charter Standard Adult Tournaments were a great showcase for football in the County, with many Charter Standard Clubs present over the weekend.”
