Combination Leagues Round-Up

Six of the best from Cambridge Women, MK Dons and Sheffield FC Ladies.

Sheffield FC Ladies (pictured) remain top of the Northern Combination, after a 6-3 win over Wakefield. Salford and South Durham are level on points with the leaders and have a game in hand. Salford sent Mossley HIll to their first defeat and South Durham scored the only goal of the game against Liverpool Feds.

Sheffield Wednesday rose to fourth with a 5-1 success at Middlesbrough, where the Owls' goals came from Laura Windle, Shelly James, Rachel Skeemer(2) and Beth Smith.

Luton Town lead the South East Combination on goal-difference from Tottenham Hotspur, following a 3-0 win over Old Actonians, while Spurs beat Ipswich Town 2-1.

Cambridge and MK Dons are third and fourth, respectively, after both hit six goals on the road. Braintree Town's first defeat came 6-1 to Cambridge, while the Dons drubbed Ebbsfleet United 6-2, storming 5-0 ahead inside half an hour. Lauren Goodier and Charly Wight both bagged braces, Christie Turner and Caroline Moran added one each, with the hosts pulling back two goals late on.

Crystal Palace picked up a first point in a 2-2 tie at Norwich City, while Enfield Town claimed a first ever home victory over Lewes. Miranda Hall and an own goal put the hosts ahead in the first half and a Sara Sinclair double seemed to have put the result beyond doubt, before Charlotte Bennett and Kirsty Spice ensured a nervy finish.

In the South West Combination, Plymouth Argyle won 3-0 at local rivals Newquay, their first ever victory at Mount Wise, in a typically physical derby game. Laura Gough opened the scoring, having earlier hit the post. Argyle added efforts from Tash Knapman and Ellis Hillman in the last 16 minutes, after the home captain received a second yellow card.

Havant & Waterlooville are the only other side to have maximum points from two games, as they hit four goals at Southampton Saints. Stacie Murray's 16th-minute opener was followed by three second-half strikes from Jess Lewry, Sabrina Morris and Jenna Fowlie.

Forest Green Rovers were 3-1 winners over visiting Cullompton Rangers, while Gloucester City went down 2-0 at home to Swindon Town.

The Midland Combination kicks-off this Sunday, September 5th.
