Scots U-19s Leave Poland On A High

Scotland U-19s were 3-2 winners in their second friendly in Poland, having lost out 3-1 in the first fixture of the double-header.

Losing the first game 3-1 at the Grodzisk Mazowiecki Stadium on Tuesday, they bounced back to win 3-2 two days later at Puszkow Stadium,

With just over an hour gone in the first encounter, it looked as though Scotland and Poland were heading for a draw, until the home side grabbed the opener from a free-kick in the 68th minute.

They doubled their lead nine minutes later, before Lisa Evans pulled one back for Scotland. Poland wrapped up the win with a third goal three minutes from time.

Scotland U-19 coach Shelley Kerr said: “It was disappointing to lose the game after such a positive start. But the team are in good spirits. We had a good team meeting afterwards and we’re now focused on the second match.

“Until about 20 minutes into the second half we were playing some very good passing football, it was pleasing to watch. But we became a bit frustrated, lost some discipline, and allowed Poland to score.

“Poland are a good side with some really decent individual players. We’ve got a new group of players, some of whom don’t have any international experience, so it was good for their development to come up against players like that.

“Unfortunately Claire Thoms took a knock and will miss the next game. She had a very positive start, and kept the back line well organised for much of the game, but we will re-group now and move on to the next match.”

Scotland then wrapped up their double-header in Poland with a 3-2 win over their hosts. The visitors were in a determined mood after losing the opening match, and Lana Clelland opened the scoring after three minutes.

Scotland held on to the lead until the 46th minute when Poland grabbed an equaliser, and then moved into the lead 10 minutes later.

But Scotland fought back, levelling through Eilish McSorley on 74 minutes, before Louise Mason sealed the win three minutes later.
