Scotland recorded six wins and dropped just four points to register their most successful Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, but missed out on the play-offs after finishing one point behind Denmark.
Anna told scottishfa.co.uk: “We are so disappointed to miss out after coming this close to the play-offs. These players have given everything during this campaign, we’ve scored a lot of goals and have barely put a foot wrong.
“We’ve essentially gone out at this stage to a free-kick scored by the side ranked sixth in Europe (the 1-0 defeat to Denmark at Rugby Park in June).
“But the fact that we are in this position says so much about the progress of this side. Just a year ago we were beaten 5-2 in a friendly in Denmark and compared to tonight’s performance it’s like night and day.
“We’ve got a young squad and we’re building for the future. We’re on the heels of the top sides in Europe and it’s only a matter of time before we take the next step and qualify for a major championship. The hard work starts again next year with the UEFA Women’s Euro campaign.”
