Cumbernald Capture SWFL 1 Cup

Cumbernauld Colts last night defeated Celtic Academy in the Scottish League Division 1 Cup Final.

It was something of a turnaround for the Colts, who had lost 4-0 away to the same opposition only last Sunday.

Celtic Academy, made up of 15 and 16 year-olds, had moved within a point of the Colts in the SWFL 1 South mid-table but that counted for little when the sides met again in Thursday's final.

The only goal came in the last five minutes, as Lauren Shaw got past her marker on the byline and her cross into the six-yard box was not dealt with, allowing Sarah Wardlaw to fire the loose ball into the back of the net.

Wild celebrations ensued, with the Colts on their way to a first senior trophy in three years.
