She Kicks Back: Michelle Kimber (Basingstoke Town)

Has got her tackling legs back after ACL reconstructive surgery.

1. Name: Michelle Kimber

2. Age (D.O.B): 24 06/09/1985

3. Team: Basingstoke Town Ladies Football Club

4. Position (and have you always played there)? Centre-back (this is my new position for the upoming season), I have not always played there, last season I played centre-forward, after returning to football from a right knee ACL reconstruction surgery, I enjoyed playing centre forward but as a strong tackler it doesnt play to my strengths but whilst recovering from surgery it seemed the best position to play. Now that I am fully fit and confident in tackling, I have moved to the back. I used to play centre midfield and throughly enjoyed playing there, but my strengths and ability is prefered at centre back this season, as I can organise the team and see everything going on around me to aid the team.

5. Team Supporter/Fave player? Liverpool, Steven Gerrard

6. Occupation/or what you are studying? Prison Officer

7. Are there other footballers in your family? Nobody in my family participates in football

8. Favourite game you have played in (and why)? Basingstoke played Andover New Street in the North Hants Cup Final in season 2009/10, like i mentioned I was returning from injury and played centre-forward. After scroing early in the first half, I was played in by my other forward partner, Lindsey Wilson, and finished the game off by scoring the second goal after about 60 minutes. Throughout the rest of the game, Basingstoke as a team defended well and I personally dropped back to defend. Every tackle in that game felt it meant so much, we won 2-0 and took the cup home for a third year running.

9. Your best attribute as a player? Physically very strong, good tackler

10. What are your ambitions in football? I would love to take Bsingstoke as far as we can go, but together as a team, encouraging everyone within the squad and developing our reserve team further

11. Who has been the biggest influence in or on your footballing career? Steve Pike, our recently retired manager. I have played under him for the past eight or nine years and in this time he has taken Bsingstoke Town Ladies fc fromm the brink of folding to the league we are in now, the Southern Region, but he has kept many of the same players and developed us into a good passing side.

12. What is the best thing about playing for your team? We are all good friends and socialse outside of football too. If we having fallings out on the pitch, they are left there and not bought into the social side of playing football. We are a very welcoming team,  which is something to be very proud of.

13. If you got to design your team’s kit, what would it look like? We recently recieved some sponsorship from Taylor Made to buy a new kit, as you can see from the picture. We are extremely grateful they donated this to us but if I had my way Id like to stay with traditional Basingstoke colours and add a little yellow to the kit, instead of the white it would be yellow

14. Do you listen to music to get you motivated, or while you train – if so, what tracks?
Some players do put music on whilst preparing for a game, but for me personally it doesn't effect me. I'm a very focused person anyway and need no additional motivation to get my mind set

15. Who, that plays for your team, should we know more about and why? Rebecca Power - Goalie. Becky has been playing for Basingstoke for a few years now and she is a great shot-stopper. She is currently in her final year of university and still manages to play and train most weeks with us. Her ability is fantasic and I admire her ability and in some cases become a little envious of it.
