Former Notts striker Ellen White adds her shock and sympathy for her friends and team mates who have been affected by the liquidation of the Lady Pies...

You may have noticed that there's not quite a full WSL1 programme of fixtures this weekend coming. Yes, Man City are busy on UWCL duty but their cup final opponents are also without a Spring Series game. The Blues will sit out this round due to the demise of Notts County Ladies FC. The FA yesterday confirmed that the former Lady Pies players may seek new clubs, despite the WSL Transfer Window having closed a few weeks ago but the shock and upset at the Notts news is still reverberating around the game.

Birmingham City’s former Notts County striker Ellen White is “devastated” for her old team mates following the closing down of the WSL top flight club, she told TONY LEIGHTON.

England international White, who moved to Blues from the Lady Pies in January, is also angry at the “shocking” timing of the County decision.

“I’m devastated for the Notts girls, heartbroken for them,” said the 27-year-old striker.

“I spent an incredible three years there and I’ve got some great memories from my time at the club.

“For the players, the staff and the fans it’s a horrible situation.

“It’s ridiculous that two days before the start of the Spring Series they (the Notts County owners) pulled the plug.

“It’s shocking timing and I really hope that all the players can get themselves new clubs sooner rather than later – and housing as well.

“A lot of them are in club housing, so to lose your job and where you live on the same day is just horrific.

“I’ve texted a few of the girls and they’re just heartbroken

“They’ve got some incredible players in that squad and I hope they all get fixed up with new clubs very quickly.”

Neither are workable or likely at present but hypothetically, would you prefer a more strict salary cap in the FA WSL OR should centrally contracted England players (that receive salaries from The FA) be allocated more evenly around WSL1 clubs?
